Electrophysiological response characteristics of guinea pig auditory cortex to simple stimuli and conspecific communication calls

Abstract

The guinea pig auditory cortex (AC) comprises at least eight areas; two core areas surrounded by six belt areas. To explore the functional roles of these eight areas, a combination of simple stimuli and conspecific communication calls were used. Responses of cells in core and belt regions of the anaesthetised guinea pig (GP) were recoraea witn custom maae muiiieiecirooes. The findings of this thesis suggest that although the rostral belt areas seem to be more involved In processing information about what a stimulus is, the other cortical areas are, to lesser degree, still involved.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo
