Abstract

Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) catalyses the rate-limiting step in the biosynthesis of monounsaturated fatty acids by the insertion of a a ^9-cis double bond into acyl-CoA substrates in the presence of NADH and molecular oxygen.
