Synthesis of ultrahigh surface area polymer networks using tetrahedral monomers

Abstract

Conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) are a class of amorphous materials with pore sizes in the micropore range (< 2 nm). CMPs have potential advantages over inorganic and inorganic hybrid materials due to the use of only the lighter elements in the periodic table and their stability as well as having the diversity of organic synthesis not available to activated carbons. Due to their sorption properties CMPs find applications as gas storage materials. By tuning the chemistry and designing the monomers around the chemistry ultrahigh surface areas can be achieved. This way, novel materials with good gas storage capabilities for hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and methane can be synthesised.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo
