У статті представлено наукову розвідку щодо виявлення психологічних особливостей стилів управління керівників закладів середньої освіти в сучасних умовах освітніх трансформацій в Україні. Представлено емпіричні результати діагностики кандидатів на вакантні посади керівників закладів освіти м. Києва. Проаналізовано співвідношення понять «лідерство» і «менеджмент», як альтернативних концептів організації управлінської діяльності; співставлено поведінковий та ситуативний підходи; обґрунтовано зміст поняття «лідерство», як найвищого якісного рівня управління.The article presents a scientific exploration to identify the psychological characteristics of management styles of heads of secondary education institutions in conditions of educational transformations in Ukraine. It presents empirical results of diagnosis of candidates for vacant positions of heads of educational institutions of Kyiv. We also analyzed the relationship between the concepts "leadership" and "management" as alternative concepts of the management activity; we compared behavioral and situational approaches; and justifies the concept of "leadership" as the most highest level of control
