Public libraries recorded on the Kansas State Census, 1875 and 1885

Abstract

This research focuses on data gathered from the Kansas state censuses of 1875 and 1885.The information recorded early public library beginnings in fledgling frontier communities to give us an idea of how readers had access to books in that time period. This research documents the complete census returns from those years and the data that was noted in each county and township about the public libraries that were in existence in 19th century Kansas.Ope
