El present article tracta sobre la figura de Josep Sunyol i Garriga, periodista, polític i president del F.C. Barcelona en el moment del seu assassinat a mans de les tropes franquistes les primeres setmanes de la Guerra Civil, i que durant dècades ha restat pràcticament en l’oblit. Aquest article analitza les múltiples facetes d’un personatge rellevant del primer terç del segle XX a Catalunya que va destacar per la seva activitat en la premsa, la política i l’esport. Una activitat que va desenvolupar des dels seus postulats republicans d’esquerres i catalanistes i en la qual destaca la seva aportació als conceptes d’esport i ciutadania, lligats al procés de construcció de la modernitat que vivia Catalunya i que Sunyol omplia de contingut en la seva perspectiva de construcció nacionalThis article is about the figure of Josep Sunyol i Garriga, journalist, politician and president of FC Barcelona at the time of his murder at the hands of Franco’s troops in the first weeks of the Civil War, and who for decades has remained virtually forgotten.
