La Guerra del Francès s’ha de situar en el marc de les rivalitats pel domini colonial, i mundial, entre França i Anglaterra durant el segle XVIII, temps en què es viu també un canvi en la naturalesa de les guerres. Es passa d’unes guerres de reis a unes altres de pobles, que a partir d’aleshores seran mobilitzats pel patriotisme.
