Els estudis generals realitzats sobre la història de l’art català encara no han profunditzat en la història de l’art local. En la postguerra (1939-1959), els intents de crear un art franquista no van consolidar una proposta estètica i estilística, però sí van incidir en l’ambient artístic, carregat de censura i ús polític de l’art com a propaganda del règim. L’arribada de les segones avantguardes a Sabadell, a finals dels anys quaranta i principis dels cinquanta, suposà per a la ciutat l’arribada de la renovació avantguardista.
