There would be three ways to consider the relationship between the local Church and the Church
Universal: giving priority to the fullness of the local Church, or giving priority to the universality of the
Church, or finally, bringing out their simultaneity and mutual interiority. This latter is the focus given by an ecclesiology of communion and the one advocated in this article, from the perspective of synodality
and collegiality. The article adopts a certain position as its basis. The affirmation of mutual interiority is
rooted in the fact that the Eucharist is a manifestation of the Church as the Body of Christ, the Body
of communion in one locality, where unity and diversity interact and where uniformity and division are
excluded. The person of the bishop who serves this community is crucial and from that point of view
there are visible gaps in Latin Catholic ecclesiology, essentially because of the infrequent practice of
collegiality and synodality on the local, inter-local and ecumenical, or universal levels
