This paper aims to discuss how cinematographic language produces truths about men and women. Throughout the text, we have used to illustrate some iconic films that bring notions of masculinity and femininity. The film we have chosen are works that have a distinct esthetic and markets, they are able to raise issues related to gender and sexuality in discussions against romantic love, identity, homosexuality, violence and techniques confession of truths, among others. We analyze the films from Michel Foucault perspective concern sexuality and power relations and Judith Butler about gender intelligible. The plots of the films show that such truths are constantly negotiated and further indicate that norms about sex, desire, pleasure, masculinity and femininity are not only reproduced as its effects on private plots do not end with the end of the film.Neste artigo, discutimos como a linguagem cinematográfica produz verdades, a partir das contribuições dos filósofos Michel Foucault, sobre sexualidade e relações de poder, e Judith Butler, sobre gêneros inteligíveis. Ao longo do texto, a discussão é ilustrada através de filmes que trazem emblemáticas noções de masculinidades e feminilidades. Dentre as verdades neles produzidas, destacamos: o culto ao amor romântico; a repetição de regras que sustentam identidades de gênero tidas como hegemônicas; a relação entre masculinidade e violência; e a não inscrição das práticas homoafetivas na concepção binária de masculino e feminino. Os enredos dos filmes nos mostram que tais verdades são constantemente negociadas e indicam ainda que as normas sobre sexo, desejo, prazer, masculinidades e feminilidades não são somente reproduzidas pois seus efeitos sobre os enredos particulares não terminam com o fim dos filmes
