Proposta ètica sobre el conflicte de la representació visual de la guerra en l’era digital

Abstract

Explaining war has never been technically so easy or essentially so complex. The context of implicit representation that Susan Sontag rejected in photography takes on a new ethical dimension when it is becomes explicit as, for example, in the context of representation which Jeff Wall and Alfredo Jaar use to establish an honest dialogue between that which is represented and those who observe and have to understand its representation, a dialogue which requires a certain amount of time which the information market does not appear disposed to offer. In the strategies identified in the visual representations of Michael Winterbottom, Alfredo Jaar and Gervasio Sánchez, we can see that all of them made use of very orthodox journalistic methods of interpretation of social reality, whether for questions of narrative resolution or for ideological reasons, which is often based on what has been said or how it has been said by the so-called media of reference, but above all to fill the void of that which has been omitted, or that which the technological era has allowed to disappear.
