Es descriu el mètode d'anàlisi de la capacitat respiratòria de transport d'electrons dels organismes, utilitzable com a índex del catabolisme potencial i de la biomassa d'un ecosistema. Es passa revista a l'estructura i el funcionament dels sistemes transportadors
d'electrons, a la relació entre respiració real i ETS, a la interpretació dels resultats, als problemes més habituals de l'analisi, i a l'interès, aplicacions i perspectives futures d'aquesta metodologia d'estudi dels ecosistemes.The analysis of the respiratory capacity of electron transport in organisms is described
