Els marcadors moleculars són les eines utilitzades per l'ésser humà com a suport per a
l'agricultura, i han representat un gran avenç en la millora genètica vegetal. A mesura que
s'han anat descobrint els diferents tipus de marcadors moleculars, i que s'han anat millorant
les tècniques per utilitzar-los, s'ha obtingut la selecció de noves varietats vegetals
amb un temps més curt que fent servir la millora clàssica. Els marcadors són usats en
plantes per a l'estudi de la seva variabilitat genètica, la identificació de les diferents varietats
que hi ha en el mercat o en la natura o la selecció de plantes heterozigotes. En projec -
tes de millora genètica els marcadors han servit per seleccionar noves varietats escollides
perquè tenen característiques d'interès en la planta o en el fruit. Són utilitzats també per
elaborar els mapes genètics de les diferents espècies vegetals. En tots els casos es poden
utilitzar diferents tipus de marcadors moleculars basats en el DNA, com els RFLP, els
AFLP, els microsatèl·lits i els SNP.Molecular markers are the tools used by breeders in support of agriculture and that
meant a breakthrough in plant breeding. As we have been exploring different types of
molecular markers, and improved techniques to apply them, we select new plant varieties
in a shorter time than using the classical breeding. These markers are used in plants to cultivars and the selection of heterozygous plants. In other projects of marker assisted selection
they were used to select new varieties characterized to have some specific parameters
of the plant or fruit. They are also used to produce the genetic maps of different
plant species. In all cases you can use different types of DNA-based molecular markers
such as RFLPs, AFLPs, SNPs and microsatellites
