Low Calcium Rickets in Young Cats

Abstract

Due to the low calcium content of meat and meat by-products, nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism and/or low calcium rickets can be a severe problem in domestic carnivores maintained on diets which are not balanced in calcium:phosporous ratio. This type of diet results in poor mineralization of bones in young animals or excess bone resorption in older animals maintained on an improperly balanced diet
