Marguerite Yourcenar was born in Europe (1903) but spent most of her life in the United States (1939-2007). Is this living abroad, because of the Second World War, enough to consider her a banished person in the strict sense of the word? It might be significant to study the motives of the decision taken by the young author, in 1939, of living in a land other than her origins, the north of France and Belgium, and remain there until her death, to understand her love of travel, her nomadism and her cosmopolitism.
