Este artículo resume la primera fase de los trabajos de investigación e intervención arqueológica en las ruinas de la ciudad virreinal de San Miguel de Piura (Perú), primera fundación española en la América Austral, incardinándolos en una perspectiva histórica definida por los datos que la investigación documental nos aportaba. Estos trabajos se han realizado por solicitud y en coordinación con el Instituto Nacional de Cultura (INC) de la República del Perú, a través de su Director Departamental en Piura, el profesor Luis Alberto Chaparro Frías.This article offers a survey over the first part of the archeological works on the ruins of the viceroyal city of San Miguel de Piura (Perú), the first spanish foundation in Austral America, and inserts them in an historical perspective defined by the facts founded in the documental investigation.
