This study offers a critical commentary on the relations between the Chilean writer Emilio Rodríguez Mendoza and Rubén Darío, and a facsimile reproduction of a chapter from the Chilean’s book Remansos del tiempo (1929), which was also included in ¡Como si fuera ayer! (1922), where Rodríguez Mendoza mentions this matter. These relations were somewhat conflictive, due to the dissatisfaction felt by the Chilean for the prologue which Darío, in answer to the author’s petition, dedicated to his book of short stories Gotas de absintio (1895). The commentary and interpretation of various later episodes has takenEste trabajo aporta en primer lugar un comentario crítico sobre las relaciones mantenidas entre el escritor chileno Emilio Rodríguez Mendoza y Rubén Darío. Para ello se reproduce después en facsímil un capítulo del libro del chileno Remansos del tiempo (1929), también incluido en ¡Como si fuera ayer! (1922), en el que hace referencia a ese tema. Estas relaciones fueron un tanto conflictivas, a partir de la insatisfacción que le produjo al chileno el prólogo que, atendiendo su petición, Darío dedicó al libro de relatos de aquél Gotas de absintio (1895). Se comentan e interpretan diversos episodios posteriores, teniendo en cuenta otro libro de Rodríguez Mendoza, Como si fuera ahora (también de 1929), en el que se refiere a su contacto con Darío en España y muestra cómo finalmente prevaleció su admiración absoluta por la obra del nicaragüense. Por último se recogen algunas opiniones críticas y breves consideraciones sobre el legado literario del chileno
