Es inevitable enfrentar el Cortázar cuentista con el novelista. El primero exploró un camino multiplicador que ha proliferado hasta nuestros días en numerosos continuadores. Las novelas, en cambio, exploran túneles sin salida y tan personales que cualquiera hubiera caído en la parodia de haber intentado continuar las búsquedas anticipadas por el autor de Rayuela. En este artículo se reivindican las novelas de vasos comunicantes entre El examen y Rayuela, una nueva manera de sostener que Julio Cortázar mantenía una visión continuada y personal, coherente, con su obra novelística, además de culminar las lucubraciones de Macedonio Fernández.Inevitably, Cortázar as a writer of short stories has to be compared with Cortázar the novelist. The short-story writer explored multiple paths that have proliferated until the present day in numerous followers. The novels, on the other hand, explore tunnels with no exit and of such a personal nature that nobody could expect to continue Rayuela's searchings without resorting to parody. This article highlights the connections between El examen and Rayuela, a new way of claiming that Cortázar not only maintained a consistent, coherent and personal attitude towards his novel writing but also brought to their culmination the lucubrations of Macedonio Fernández
