During the 90’s, the number of registered foreigners in Spain has strongly increased. A large share of them consists of economic immigrants from Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America, which is the most common origin of the immigrants. The characteristics of this human group remain largely unknown due to the complexity of the emigrational phenomena, the novelty of the foreign inflows to Spain and the deficiencies, regarding populations’ mobility, that the available statistical sources have. The focus of this project is that of improving the characterisation of immigration of Latin American origin in Spain using last Municipal Population Registers (the 1st of January 2005) whose results became available on the 29th of April 2005.A lo largo de la década de los 90 se ha producido en España un fuerte crecimiento del número de extranjeros censados, gran parte de ellos inmigrantes económicos procedentes de África, Europa del Este y sobre todo de América Latina, que ha llegado a ser la procedencia continental más significativa. Actualmente se conocen mal las características de este colectivo debido a la complejidad intrínseca a los fenómenos inmigratorios, al reciente asentamiento en España de esta corriente y a las deficiencias que las fuentes estadísticas tienen en relación a la movilidad de las poblaciones. El bjetivo de este trabajo es el de avanzar en la caracterización de la inmigración latinoamericana en España a partir fundamentalmente del Padrón Municipal fechado a 1 de enero de 2005, último disponible, cuyos resultados empezaron a hacerse públicos a partir del 29 de abril del 2005
