La dignidad humana como pieza clave en el pensamiento arenaliano

Abstract

Se trata de un estudio que rescata el pensamiento de una de las figuras más destacadas del agitado siglo XIX español: Concepción Arenal. Sus aportaciones reformistas y comprometidas con la sociedad de su tiempo tuvieron como hilo conductor su incansable defensa de la dignidad del ser humano. Así, poniendo de manifiesto esta constante, se analizan algunos de los efectos que su reconocimiento conllevaría respecto de la reclamación de los derechos de los más desfavorecidos, apelando siempre a un compromiso social en esta tarea. Las reformas que preconizó respecto de la necesaria educación integral del individuo, de la humanización de las cárceles y de la situación jurídica y cultural de la mujer conformarán una de sus más importantes argumentaciones en las que persona y sociedad se funden en un proyecto común. Igualmente, también se destaca como su idea de progreso se conjugaba con un fuerte deseo de libertad y de justicia que la hará plantear ideas bastante avanzadas en aquella sociedad finisecular.This study revisits the thinking of one of the most important figures of the turbu¬lent 19th century in Spain: Concepción Arenal. Her reformist contributions and commitment to society at that time are linked by the common theme of her tire¬less defence of the dignity of human beings. The paper, highlighting this theme, analyses some of the changes that recognition of her thinking would cause to the demand for rights for the least favoured, a task which always requires social com mitment. She advocated a number reforms in relation to the need for integrated education of the individual and the humanisation of the prisons and the legal and cultural situation of women and these constitute one of her most important lines of argument, which is that the individual and society share a common objective. The paper also highlights how her ideas about progress were combined with a strong desire for freedom and justice and how this led her to raise ideas that were consid ered advanced for that society at the turn of the century.En alemán:Die Studie behandelt das Denken einer der wichtigsten Persönlichkeiten des bewe gten spanischen 19. Jahrhunderts: Concepción Arenal. Die unermüdliche Vertei digung der Menschenwürde war der Leitfaden ihrer reformerischen Betätigung und ihres zeitgenössischen gesellschaftlichen Engagements. Ausgehend von dieser Konstante, werden einige der Konsequenzen untersucht, zu denen sie bei ihrer analytischen Arbeit – stets mit einem Appell an die gesellschaftliche Verantwor tung - in Bezug auf die Einforderung der Rechte der Benachteiligten gelangte. Die Reformen, die sie vorantrieb - die integrale Ausbildung des Individuums, die Humanisierung der Gefängnisse sowie die kulturelle und juristische Situation der Frau - gehörten zu den wichtigsten Grundlegungen, die Person und Gesellschaft in einem Projekt zusammenfließen ließen. Ebenso wird in der Studie hervorgehoben, wie ihre Vorstellung vom Fortschritt mit einem starken Freiheits- und Gerechti gkeitsdrang einherging, der sie dazu brachte, Ideen vorzutragen, die für die dama lige Zeit am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts sehr fortschrittlich waren
