Clayville Rural Life Center and Museum - Publications Series I - Living History Resource List #10: Garden Seeds for the 1850s

Abstract

This resource list pertains to garden seeds that would have been popular in the 1850s. The list is divided into two sections. The first is a list of garden seeds recommended for use in Springfield, Illinois. This was found in the "Transactions of the Illinois State Agricultural Society" (vol. 3 - 1857) by Simeon Francis. The second section describes how the garden was recreated at Clayville using two sources: "The Young Gardener's Assistant" by Thomas Bridgeman and "On Practical Gardening in Illinois" by Simeon Francis. 6p.published or submitted for publicationis peer reviewe
