Strategies for Neighborhood Recovery: High Point, Joyland and Chosewood Park, Atlanta

Abstract

This report is the work product of a Fall 2009 semester graduate studio course sponsored by the Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of City and Regional Planning. The Atlanta Renewal Communities, Inc. (ACoRA) issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) in February 2009 to which Dr. Etienne responded with a Technical Proposal that proposed a scope of work that included: An assessment of housing conditions in the High Point, Joyland, and Chosewood Park neighborhoods; Detailed demographic profiles for each neighborhood; An inventory of neighborhood institutions and businesses; The gathering of community input through organized meetings. Following this neighborhood analysis, we provide recommendations for the issues we identified, with a particular emphasis on potential opportunities for federal stimulus funding
