本文では和辻哲郎と九鬼周造の自己と他者について論じたい。九鬼周造は論文「「いき」の本質」、また著作『「いき」の構造』、『偶然性の問題』において一貫して人間存在の無根拠さを説き、徹底した二元性を強調している。他方、和辻哲郎は『風土』、『古寺巡礼』、『日本精神史研究』において示されたように、人間存在のもっとも重要な基盤を空間性に置き、人間存在を間柄存在として把握していた。さらに論文「人間の学としての倫理学の意義」、著作『人間の学としての倫理学』『倫理学』と三つの論考において、家族、親族、地縁共同体、経済共同体、文化共同体のように階層的な共同体論を通して倫理学を形成した。和辻と九鬼は、自己と他者の関係において、日本的特殊性を見出そうとしていたことである。This article attempts to discuss the characteristics of Japanese culture based on the similarities of the "Self" and "Others" as proposed by Watsuji and Kuki. They both base their arguments on the criticism of the concept of “individualism” in a Western philosophical context. In Watsuji Tetsuro’s Rinrigaku: Ethics in Japan, he redefines the concept of ethics. In his opinion, "Others" should not be excluded from the individuals other than "Self"; rather, "Others" should be considered as an individual in the community in the same way as the "Self". The critical issue of ethics is to recognize the roles of "Self" and "Others" in the community. In The Structure of "Iki" and The Problem of Contingency, Kuki points out the lack of the necessity of individual existence. There is no necessity, whether it is in the existence of "Self" or in relationships with others. Therefore, when facing an unknown future, one has to maintain an open-minded attitude, that is, to accept the persistent change of "Self" and "Others" While Watsuji and Kuki keep very different ethical stances, they actually reflect different aspects of the same Japanese culture
