Due to the increasing requirements on the metallurgical quality of the railway wheels JSC "EVRAZ NTMK" developed a steel plant revamping and improvement program which offers transition to a new game-changing level of technology: i.e. the converter method of liquid steel manufacturing followed by secondary metallurgy, vacuum degassing and continuous casting. The main concept of the new technology manifested itself in: production of a steel DeV product free from phosphorus, sulfur, gases and detrimental non-ferrous impurities; secondary metallurgy which offers minimum gas pickup in steel and low non-metallic inclusions; continuous casting of steel into billets which imply higher quality of the final product and higher yield
