Opinnäytetyö on toteutettu kuvailevana kirjallisuuskatsauksena. Sen tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa alkoholinkäytön aiheuttamia päivystyksellistä hoitoa vaativia tilanteita. Tavoitteena oli luoda tiivis ja johdonmukainen kirjallisuuskatsaus aiheesta. Tavoitteena oli myös tuottaa tietoa, joka olisi hyödyksi päivystyspoliklinikalla työskenteleville tai sinne pyrkiville sairaanhoitajille.
Aiheesta tietoa löytyi paljon, joten haasteena oli tiedon rajaaminen. Työssä käsiteltävät asiat on kuvattu hoitajan näkökulmasta päivystyksellisessä hoitotyössä. Opinnäytetyön aiheeseen antoi näkökulmaa harjoittelu keskussairaalan
päivystyksessä.
Opinnäytetyössä on pyritty käyttämään mahdollisimman uusia lähteitä ja niistä löytynyttä tietoa on vertailtu keskenään. Työssä on käsitelty alkoholimyrkytyksiä, alkoholin vaikutuksia hermostoon ja elimiin, infektioita sekä traumoja, joille alkoholin käyttö altistaa. Erityispiirteenä työssä on käsitelty päihtyneen potilaan operatiivista hoitoa.
Opinnäytetyössä kävi ilmi, että päihtyneet potilaat työllistävät päivystyksiä enenevässä määrin. Suomalaisten alkoholinkäyttö on keskittynyt viikonloppuihin, erityisesti ilta- ja yöaikaan. Työssä ilmeni myös se, että päihtynyt potilas saattaa aiheuttaa uhan henkilökunnan työturvallisuudelle.
Päihderiippuvaisen potilaan hoitokielteisyys, hoitoon hakeutumisen viivästyminen ja sairauksien huono hoitotasapaino nousivat työssä esiin potilaan hoitoa hankaloittavina tekijöinä. Opinnäytetyössä todettiin, että päihdepotilaan asianmukainen hoitoon ohjaus ja mini-interventio edistävät hoitoon hakeutumista ja muutosprosessia.The Bachelor’s thesis was executed as a descriptive literature review. The purpose of the thesis was to collect acute treatment situations which are caused by alcohol. The aims were to produce a compact and logical literature review and to provide information to nurses who are working in emergency units.
There was a lot of information about the subject so the challenge was condensing the information. The issues of this thesis are described from the point of view of a nurse working in the emergency unit. The practice in the emergency unit at the central hospital showed a viewpoint to the subject of this thesis.
All the information of the thesis has been compared and the aspiration was to use as new information as possible. The thesis discusses alcohol poisoning, effects on nervous systems and organ changes, infections and trauma caused by alcohol. Particularly the study has focused on operative treatment of an intoxicated patient.
The study revealed that intoxicated patients add to the workload of emergency units increasingly. The alcohol consumption among Finnish people rises at weekends. Especially in the evenings and at night. An intoxicated patient might cause a risk to the work safety of the staff.
The study also revealed that a patient with drug addiction can resist treatment, seeking to treatment can be delayed and diseases can be uncured. These things complicated treatment of the patients. It was noted in the study that right guidance to appropriate treatment or short intervention promote seeking treatment and process of change of intoxicant patients
