Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli tehdä opas päiväkoti-ikäisten lasten vanhemmille lasten suun- ja hampaiden hoidosta. Päiväkoti-ikäisten lasten vanhemmille halusimme antaa tietoa lasten suu- ja hammashygieniasta ja sen vaikutuksista lasten elämään. Opas tehtiin Helsingin kaupungin Päiväkoti Siltamäkeen.
Opinnäytetyö oli toiminnallinen ja se oli produktiona toteutettu opas. Opinnäytetyön teoriaosuudessa käsiteltiin hampaan puhkeamista ja kehittymistä, hampaiden puhdistamista ja hoitoa, suun terveyttä edistävää ravitsemusta ja hampaan terveystuotteita, hammassairauksia ja hampaisiin vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Opas pyrittiin laatimaan selkeäksi ja kiinnostavaksi. Teoriatiedon pohjalta koottiin päiväkoti-ikäisten lasten suunhoidon opas jaettavaksi vanhemmille ja päiväkodin henkilökunnalle.
Oppaassa oli tietoa ja suosituksia tiiviissä muodossa päiväkoti-ikäisten lasten suunterveydestä ja hoidosta sekä tehtäviä lapsille. Opas sisältää osuudet hampaiden puhkeamisesta ja suun- ja hampaiden hoidosta, suun terveyttä edistävästä ravitsemuksesta ja hampaiden terveystuotteista sekä yleisimmistä suun ongelmista. Tavoitteena on tehdä toiminnallinen tuokio 5-vuotiaille lapsille Päiväkoti Siltamäkeen lasten suun ja hampaiden hoidosta.

The aim of this thesis was to produce a guide concerning oral hygiene and dental care for parents who have day care –aged children. The purpose was to share information about oral hygiene and dental care and its impact on children's lives. The guide was made for Päiväkoti Siltamäki, a day care unit in Helsinki City.
The thesis was supposed to be functional guide and carry out based as a production. It included facts on teething and tooth development in children and examples how to take care of dental hygiene. It also introduced dental health promoting nutrition of the mouth as well as dental health promoting products and explained dental pathology. The guide was made as clear and as interesting as possible and was intended for both parents and staff of the day care unit Päiväkoti Siltamäki to inform about oral hygiene and dental care.
The guide included both information and recommendations for the oral and dental hygiene. It also included some exercises for children to do. The guide contains both knowledge and recommendations of the care of mouth and teeth in compact form for children under school-aged and lessons for children as well. The guide contains parts concerning the onset of the teeth, the care of mouth and teeth, health promoting nutrition of the mouth as well as dental health promoting products and the most common problems of the mouth. The purpose was to make a functional moment for 5 year old children in Päiväkoti Siltamäki, a day care unit about oral and dental hygiene.
