Tutkielman taustana on mikroyritysten suuri määrä Suomessa. Yritystoiminta voidaan myös helpoiten aloittaa yksityisenä elinkeinonharjoittajana. Tutkielman tavoitteena on tunnistaa, mitkä tekijät voivat käynnistää toimintamuodon muutoksen, miten muutos toteutetaan ja millaista tietoa yrittäjät tarvitsevat käynnistääkseen muutoksen sekä tuoda lisää tietoa ja ymmärrystä yritysmuodon muutoksen mahdollistavista tekijöistä.
Prosessin tarkastelussa lähdetään tutkimaan yritysmuotojen välisiä eroavaisuuksia ja niihin vaikuttavaa lainsäädäntöä. Teoreettisessa osassa käsitellään yrittäjyysteoriaa persoonallisuus- ja resurssiteorian pohjalta ja yritysteoriaa resurssiteorian ja elinkaariajattelumallin kautta, sekä näihin teorioihin perustuvia aiemmin kotimaassa ja ulkomailla tehtyjä tutkimuksia. Tutkimusote on toiminta-analyyttinen ja tutkimusstrategiana case-yrityksessä on toimintatutkimus.
Tutkielman empiirinen osuus koostuu mikroyrittäjien teemahaastatteluista, tulosten analysoinnista ja yritysten nykytilanteen tarkastelusta tutkimuksen tekemisen jälkeen. Tulosten analysointi perustuu yritysteoriaan ja aiemmin tehtyihin tutkimuksiin. Mikroyrityksissä harjoitetaan laskentatointa vähän tai ei lainkaan eikä yrityksillä ole dokumentoituja yrityssuunnitelmia. Yrittäjät tarvitsisivat enemmän tietoa ja ohjausta käynnistääkseen toimintamuodon muutoksen. Tutkimustulosten oletettiin vastaavan todellisuutta. Opinnäytetyössä toteutettiin case-yrityksessä yksityisen elinkeinoharjoittajan toimintamuodon muutos osakeyhtiöksi.
Yrityksen oma dynaamisuus ja yrityksen omat strategiset valinnat yhdessä sekä yrittäjän persoonallisuus- ja yrittäjäpiirteet määräävät yrityksen kehittymisen suunnan. Unohtaa ei voida myöskään lainsäädäntöä, joka vaikuttaa omalta osaltaan yritystoimintaan. Tutkimuksen yleistettävyyteen tarvitaan mahdollisesti jatkotutkimus laajemmalla otannalla. Tutkielman tavoite saavutettiin hyvin tiedostamalla toimintamuodon muutokseen liittyvät ongelmat, joiden perusteella tehtiin päätelmiä yrittäjien osaamisesta ja tiedon tarpeesta. Case-yrityksessä tehdyn toimintamuodon muutoksen osakeyhtiöksi odotetaan jatkossa kasvattavan ja kehittävän yrityksen toimintaedellytyksiä.

Indeed, it is the easiest way to start the entrepreneurship as a private entrepreneur. It is the aim of the research to recognize, which factors can launch the change of the form of enterprise, how the change is carried out and what kind of information the entrepreneurs need to start the change, and also to produce new knowledge and understanding of the factors enabling the change of the enterprise form.
While monitoring the process, the differences between enterprise forms and the legislation affecting them are studied. In the theoretical section the entrepreneurship theory is examined on the basis of personal and resource theories and enterprise theory via resource theory and life cycle model, and also researches based on the theories mentioned ahead and done earlier in Finland and abroad. The research touch is operation-based analytical and activity study serves as research strategy in the case enterprise.
The empirical section of the research comprises the theme interviews of micro-entrepreneurs, analysis of the results and monitoring of the existing situation of enterprises after the research. The analysis of the results is based on the enterprise theory and researches done earlier. In the micro-enterprises, management accounting is practised rather little or not at all, and the enterprises do not have particular enterprise plans in files. The entrepreneurs would need more information and advising to launch the change of the form of enterprise. The results were presumed to match the facts. The change of a private entrepreneur’s form of enterprise to a limited liability company was carried out in the case enterprise of the research.
How dynamic the enterprise is and what strategic selections the enterprise makes, these together and entrepreneur’s personality and entrepreneurial characteristics determine in what direction the enterprise is heading the development. Further, it is not allowed to forget the legislation, which also affects the enterprise activities. Possibly a follow-up research with a wider sampling will be needed to find out, how overall the results of this research were. The target of the research was achieved well by recognizing the problems the change of the enterprise form caused, and the findings lead to conclusions what entrepreneurs know and what further information they need. In the future the change of the form of enterprise is expected to have impact on the growth and development of the business facilities in the case enterprise.
