His position will be filled inthe May 2004 election.President's ReportLIEBERMAN reported for the President, who was in China, with respect to herresignation from the unversity effective late December. The disposition of herresponsibilities after her departure has been decided upon by the President, aftermeeting with the Advisory Council, and the Provost. Sandra Rosengrant, FLL,wil lead the Advising Initiative, Gil Latz wil lead the Internationalization Initiative.An internal search is underway for an interim director of the Center for AcademicExcellence. The interim director wil facilitate the two initiatives above,and will also direct the Assessment and Diversity initiatives.The Presiding Offcer, on behalf of the Senate and the Faculty, wished Dr. Liebermanwell in her new endeavor. Applause.Provost's ReportTETREAULT noted that there are three candidates in the internal search for theinteri director, Marha Balshem, Samuel Henr, and Paul Latiolais. Aferinterviews with the candidates and consultations with the four councils and theCAE staff, she will make the anouncement.TETREAUL T noted that as the Diversity Initiative is in the third year, she isconducting three gatherings with Deans and Deparent Chairs who have hiredfaculty from underrepresented groups to discuss issues around recruting andretention.Vice President's ReportKENTON reported on the university's current Sustainability Projects. In addition tothe list ofprojects (attached), he noted that several elevators in Cramer andNeuberger halls would be upgraded, as welL.KENTON noted that letters have been sent to faculty who are enrolled in the non-PERS retirement option, with respect to reductions in the employer contribution.D. Advanced plannng stages of 144 panel, 25kw solar array on top of Cramer Hall (2ndlargest aray in OUS). Completed a comprehensive Energy Management Plan (thanks to Emily Moore) whichincludes a review of curent energy use and recommendations for achieving aggressiveeffciency goals and targets. Installing low-flow toilets and automatic flush sensors in bathooms: SMSU; CramerHall; Neuberger Hall; Shattck Hall. Installing automatic light sensors in classrooms to conserve energy when the rooms arenot in use: Cramer Hall; Neuberger Hall; Shattuck Hall. Installng new lights on the Park Blocks - replacing the fixtures to those that conservemore energy and put off more light. Completed lighting retrofits in Extended Studies and the Peter Stott Center (new ballasts). Installed energy effcient boilers and chilers in CramerGreen Building Projects:. Birmingham Aparmentso Early 1900's building, carefully deconstructed, ;090% reused and recycled. Epler Hall - Silver LEED Certified (PSU's 1st)o Rain water harvest system (flush toilets and irrigation). Partially paid for by a $15,000 City ofPDX, Offce of SustainableDevelopment granto Natual ventilationo Day lightingoRe-use of waste heat to pre-heat the buildings watero Sunshades and a solar chimneyo Stormwater management design.
