Nowadays, the areas of Dry Forest in the region of the Vão do Paranã, State of Goiás, Brazil, are very fragmented mainly due to uncontroled land use activities such as the cattle ranching and selective logging. The objective of this work is to identify the possibility of discriminating the Dry Forest in the Vão do Paranã through the spectral analysis of multitemporal Landsat images. The images from April to July, 2001 (from late wet season to early dry season) were converted into surface apparent reflectances by using the MODTRAN4+ -based FLAASH algorithm and summed one-by-one (April+May, April+May+June, and April+May+June+July). The results showed that there was an increasing improvement in the Dry Forest identification as more multitemporal images were considered. Therefore, the technique of cumulative reflectance considered in this study is a promising alternative to obtain improved discrimination of dry forested areas in the Vão do Paranã region.Pages: 2012-201
