Map to accompany reports on the capture of Valparaiso [cartographic material] : from the map published with the official account, 1891 /

Abstract

Map of the Valparaiso region in Chile. The Chilean Civil War of 1891 was an armed conflict between forces supporting Congress (the Gobernistas), who controlled the Army but not the Navy, and forces supporting the sitting President, the dictator José Manuel Balmaceda (the Balmacedists), who controlled the Navy mostly stationed in Valparaiso but not the Army. This conflict ended with the capture of the Chilean fleet in the Bay of Valparaiso resulting in the defeat of presidential forces at Placilla on Aug. 22, 1891 and the President later committing suicide as a consequence.; Also available in an electronic version via the Internet at: http://nla.gov.au/nla.map-rm583.
