A positive change in surgical attitudes towards online workplace-based assessment

Abstract

Traditional models of surgical education have been based on the apprenticeship model. However, in recent years work patterns have changed significantly 1 and a competency-based approach to trainee assessment has been developed with the introduction of workplace-based assessments (WBAs) and online portfolios. The Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP) began development in 2002 and has become a central component of surgical trainee assessment since its introduction in 2007. </jats:sec
