Often we hear people wondering about abstract art and what it is about or arguing that it is child’s play. However, abstract art is not simple, in fact, it is very exacting. Throughout my studies, I as well had difficulties with confronting and practising abstraction but by solving study examples, I now understand it better.
In my diploma seminar paper, I will discuss abstraction, its history and people who have created it. Furthermore, I will analyse concepts of abstraction and abstracted and present the research I took during my academic year when I was trying to practise abstraction and find ways to it. I will link abstract art with the art works of primary school students and explore ways to abstraction so that as a teacher, I will help children get to know and accept abstraction easier. I will focus on strategies for approaching the concept of abstraction to primary school students in art classes. In doing so, I will consider syllabus, fine art theory themes and techniques. My goal is to make abstraction more understandable to children with the help of tasks which should be as diverse, logical and useful as possible for all fine art fields.
