Transformation of Differences in Stratification. How School Reproduces and Causes Social Inequality of Education

Abstract

Anhand einer Sekundäranalyse eines Paneldatensatzes widmen sich die Autoren der Frage nach der Bedeutung lebensweltlicher und schulischer Faktoren bei der Reproduktion von Bildungsungleichheit. Die Analyse familialer Sozialisationskontexte wird ergänzt durch eine milieuspezifische Analyse der schulischen Performanz (Schulnoten, Konzentrationsprobleme und Kontrollüberzeugungen) im Längsschnitt. Dabei zeigen sich komplexe Mechanismen der schulischen Reproduktion und Modifikation von Bildungsungleichheit. Diese kann nicht allein der Bildungsnähe bzw. Bildungsferne der Herkunftsmilieus zugeschrieben werden. Ebenso bedeutsam sind die spezifischen Passungsverhältnisse von Bildungseinstellungen und -praktiken innerhalb der Milieus. (DIPF/Orig.)In a secondary analysis of panel data we explore the meaning of environmental and scholastic factors in reproduction of educational inequality. We analyze the impact of family socialization conditions on school performance (judged by marks, concentration problems and domain specific locus of control) of different social milieus. The findings show complex mechanisms of scholastic reproduction and modification of social inequality. This reproduction is not due to familiarity of educational practices with scholastic norms within the milieus alone. The specific relations of educational aspirations and practises are also important. (DIPF/Orig.
