"Expedition for Discovering the ,Kinderland\u27". Scientific Diaries of Parents as a New Source for Research in the History of Childhood and Socialisation

Abstract

Der Artikel versteht sich als Beitrag zur historischen Kindheits- und Sozialisationsforschung. Der Artikel versucht, auf wissenschaftliche Elterntagebücher als besondere Quellengattung dieses Forschungsfeldes aufmerksam zu machen. Das geschieht am Beispiel zweier pädagogischer Reformepochen, 1800 und 1900, und anhand zweier prominenter Tagebuchsammlungen, die mit den Namen von Johann Heinrich Campe und Clara und William Stern verbunden sind. Die Quelle, \u27wissenschaftliches Elterntagebuch\u27 wird auf ihren historisch pädagogischen Kontext und auf ihre methodischen Möglichkeiten und Grenzen hin befragt. (DIPF/Orig.)This article focusses on a methodological question in the young discipline of historical research in childhood and socialisation. It aims at introducing scientific parental diaries as a promising source for historical research in this field. Two outstanding collections of diaries are presented for discussing this proposal: one case study concerns the collection of Johann Heinrich Campe, an enlighted educational reformer (1800); the other case study recalls the extensive diaries of the famous psychologists Clara and William Stern (1900). Relying on these well documented studies the author discusses some methodological possibilities and pitfalls of this type of historical source. (DIPF/Orig.
