Razmišljati o skulpturi u javnom prostoru znači razmišljati o mijenjanju transgresivnog identiteta mjesta. U tom susretu skulpture i prostora, osobnog identiteta autora s kolektivnim identitetom ili identitetima zajednice, identiteta djela s identitetom prostora grada u novi identitet, nalazi se potraga za zajedničkim simbolom. Skulptura, kao zajednički simbol, posljedica je postojećeg identiteta i njegov uzročnik. Njezina je povijesna uloga oblikovati sliku prostora kao znak mjesta. Kao identitetna oznaka, odnosno teritorijalna markacija, ima drukčiji zadatak nego kao umjetničko djelo. Sculpture, as a shared symbol, is the result and cause of the existing identity. Its historical role is to turn the image of a space into a sign of the place.
