The Zlatè Hory Mining District is the biggest mineral deposit of base metals in the Czech republic. The mining has been going on for many centuries and the water and ground is polluted by heavy metals from the mines. The concentrations of copper and zinc in the brooks draining the area is comparable to the concentrations found in Norwegian mine polluted rivers.
