He was rushed to his vet-erinarian, Dr. Lisa Evans, V’88. He was stabi-lized and equipped with an IV for the drive tothe Veterinary Hospital of the University ofPennsylvania. Doctors determined that he wasanemic and in shock from severe bleedingulcers in his stomach and intestines. The ulcerswere likely due to sensitivity to aspirin, whichBogie was taking for arthritis of his knees. Theulcers were so severe that Bogie needed largeamounts of blood and plasma for two weeksuntil his ulcers healed completely. Bogiereceived a dozen pints of blood products, morethan his whole blood volume, during his hos-pital stay.
