Eliminates state funding to Athletics before any reductions to academic programs are made

Adopted: May 26, 1992    ACADEMIC SENATE OF CALIFORNIA POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY San Luis Obispo, California  AS-391-92/Math RESOLUTION ON REDUCTION OF FUNDING FOR INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS   WHEREAS, The State budget shortfall is larger than originally projected ($10 billion), and  WHEREAS, Additional cuts are expected, and  WHEREAS, Cal Poly is an academic institution; therefore, be it  RESOLVED: That any additional reductions in programs begin with the elimination of State funding for the intercollegiate Athletics program; and be it further  RESOLVED: That no academic program be reduced beyond the current levels until all possible savings have been achieved by the elimination of State support of the intercollegiate Athletics program. The Resolution on Reduction of Funding for Intercollegiate Athletics has been taken under advisement and has been shared with the Athletics Governing Board in its deliberations. The author of the Resolution is a voting member of the Athletics Governing Board. I appreciate the input from the Academic Senate on this subject.
