VAT): EUR 6 Gas prices for EU households on 1 January 1999: downward trend Luis de la Fuente D Upward I Downward 25 c 20 15 10 mm D1 D2 D3 D3-b D4 A study of the variations in deflated (all taxes included) gas prices for households expressed in national currency from 1 July 1998 to 1 January 1999 reveals an average drop which affected all categories of standard consumers1: Average"* D1 -1.03% D2 -1.39% D3 -2.98% D3-b -3.10% D4 -4.25% The main drops were recorded in Germany for D3-b (-5.0%) and D4 (-10.3%) in Hannover and for D3 to D4 in Stuttgart (between -6 .1% and -8.2%), Munich (between -5.3% and -9.7%), Frankfurt am Main (between -7.3% and -9.0%) and Dusseldorf (between -7.3% and -9.3%). Other big drops affected Brussels for D4 (-6.1%), Luxembourg for D3 to D4 (between -5.3% and -5.8%) as well as France for D1 in Paris (-5.4%) and Strasbourg (-5.3%). The biggest rises were recorded in the Netherlands for D3 (+2.1%) and D3-b (+3.4%) in Rotterdam.
