KingReports of producers to the Illinois State Geological Survey showthat the amount of agstone (ground limestone, dolomite, and marl) usedfor soil improvement in Illinois during 1946 amounted to more than5,350,000 tons (table 1). The progressiveincrease in the use of agstoneon Illinois farms during theyears for which figures areavailable is shown in Table 2.During 1946, agstone wasproduced in 47 of the 102 coun-ties of the State. Of the totalused during the year, 92.7 per-cent was produced in Illinois.Table 3 gives the use ofagstone by counties in Illinoisduring 1946, showing the amountproduced in Illinois and in otherstates. It also shows the arableland and plowable pasture ineach county and the averagequantity of agstone used, inpounds per acre of such land ineach county. These data arefrom producers who reportedsales of agstone in specific counties, or are estimates by county farmadvisers. Production not accounted for in the county totals is given atthe bottom of the table marked "counties not specified."
