 WWW.BROOKES.AC.UK/LIBRARY LIBRARY  E-books for Education students    Electronic books (e-books) let you read the whole of a textbook on your computer screen. You can usually print or download very limited numbers of pages, and sometimes download the whole book for a limited time; some of our packages also let you add your own online notes to a book or make lists of your favourite e-books.  How do I get access to them?   You’ll need your Brookes login details (student number and password) to log in when prompted. If you want to look up a specific e-book:  Go to the Library home page and choose Books and e-books from Library Search  Search as you would for an ordinary printed book   The results include both print and e-books:  If the book you want comes up as an e-book, click on its title and then on the Access the resource link. (When prompted, log in with your Brookes details.) If the e-book doesn't come up, then unfortunately we don't have that title as an e-book - feel free to suggest to the Education Librarians that we purchase an e-book version! (Not all titles are available as e-books though.) If you want to find e-books on a particular topic:  Do a keyword search on the Books and e-books tab, such as “primary”, “teaching”, or “dyslexia”  On the results list page, look at the Refine Your Search menu on the left and click on Electronic Books Catalogue  If the Electronic Books Catalogue doesn’t appear, there are no e-books with those keywords in the title – try a slightly different, or broader, keyword search  If you want to browse or search to see what's available:    On the Library site A-Z, look up E-books (or go straight to http://www.brookes.ac.uk/library/ebooks.html) and scroll down to E-book Suppliers.  The Education-related e-books are all in the first two packages listed, Dawsonera and MyiLibrary.    Click the Connect link for either package to go through to it. If prompted to log in, do so with your Brookes details. Hazel Rothera, September 2015  Browsing and searching in MyiLibrary:  Type a keyword or phrase into the Search box…  Or choose “Browse by Subject”, and then click “SEE ALL” next to the Education subject heading to browse.    Browsing and searching in Dawsonera:  Once you’ve signed in to Dawsonera, you can browse by Categories (Education is under Social Sciences).  You can use the Search box at the top right of the page to search for specific books or topics. You can also use the “My Bookshelf” feature to remember useful books, and see your Recently Viewed titles.    Once you have found the book you want:   Click "Open now" (in MyiLibrary) or the “Read online”  button in Dawsonera.   Some books in both packages also give you the option of downloading to an e-reader for a limited time (use the packages’ Help pages for information on this).   You can then browse different sections using the Table of Contents (TOC) menu on the left, or use the Next and Previous buttons on each page.  Other useful information:  For help with searching, printing, downloading, making notes and other features of the packages, use the Help links in either package. (The number of pages of any e-book you can download or print may be restricted; attempts to override this or to log in multiple times and download/print different sections may result in access to the package being locked altogether.)
