Ocean Surface radar cross-section in dual-polarisation: observations and modeling.

Abstract

The contribution of the non-polarized part of the backscattered signal, which has a different impact on HH and VV radar cross-section and hence affect the polarization ratio was focused. A combination of dual-polarized observations and modeling can be used to estimate or assess some properties of the backscattering and of the surface. The analysis showed the interest of dual-polarized observations to further improve the models based on a physical background. The polarization difference shows the interest of dual-polarization measurement to check model performances
