Canthaxanthin (4,4(prm1)-diketo-(beta)-carotene) is produced as the major carotenoid pigment by orange- and dark-pink-pigmented bacteriochlorophyll-containing Bradyrhizobium strains isolated from stem nodules of Aeschynomene species.
