Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Saude, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem, Florianópolis, 2012Estudo de caráter qualitativo, do tipo descritivo, com objetivo geral de conhecer a prática dos cuidadores ocupacionais de idosos no contexto domiciliar e a relação com a enfermagem, realizado no município de Joinville, SC. Participaram da pesquisa 18 cuidadores ocupacionais de idosos. As entrevistas foram realizadas nos meses de junho e julho de 2012. Dados colhidos através de entrevista semiestruturada, para analise foi utilizado o método de Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin (2011). As cinco categorias que emergiram dos dados foram: Tornando-se cuidador, Sendo cuidador, O fazer do cuidador, O contexto de trabalho do cuidador e as Relações que emergem do cuidado ao idoso, que por sua vez compuseram o tema central A prática de cuidado ao idoso. Os resultados mostraram que o cuidador ocupacional é a mulher, com idade média de 52 anos, formação escolar até a quarta série, sem cursos complementares. It was realized that while the elderly is able to take care of him/herself, the caregivers perform lighter household activities, like washing the dishes and the do the laundry and prepare meals for the elderly. However, with the worsening condition of the elderly, they will leave and take such other activities related direct to the elderly care. The conditions for exercising the function vary according to the conditions and needs of each family. The elderly care for these workers involves basic knowledge as home organization, food preparation and patience in dealing with the elderly and their aggressiveness. They believe that the experience of caring for people is enough to carry out his function. Some activities are reported exclusive of health professionals, such as application parenteral medication, reinforcing the need to discuss the boundaries between the work of occupational caregivers of elderly and its relationship with the nursing profession. It is necessary should ensure a care free of risk and harm to the elderly, fitting to nursing reflect on their accountability. This discussion should be focused on the elderly and their needs
