Application of the Delphi Method in the process of validation of an instrument for assessing quality of life in centers for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Abstract

Este artículo describe las principales características de la técnica Delphi y su idoneidad para ser aplicada en contextos socio-educativos. Específi camente se utiliza la técnica en el proceso de validación de una Guía de Indicadores de Calidad de Vida para centros que prestan apoyo social y educativo a personas con Trastornos del Espectro del Autismo. Habitualmente al referirnos a una técnica de investigación lo hacemos realizando una revisión teórica, siguiendo diferentes autores que han profundizado en ella; exponemos los pasos a seguir y, en el mejor de los casos, se presentan las difi cultades que comporta su utilización. En este caso presentamos con detalle la investigación realizada con la técnica Delphi, describiendo y ejemplificando los pasos fundamentales, para que se pueda valorar, con justo criterio, su posible utilización en otras investigaciones.This article describes the main characteristics of the Delphi Method and the appropriateness of its application to socio-educational contexts. We have specifically used this technique to validate a guide of quality of life indicators for centres that provide social and educational support to pople with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Frequently, when somebody refers to a research technique, they do it through a theoretical assessment, showing the steps to follow or explaining the difficulties that such technique poses. In this case we present in detail the research that we have carried out with the Delphi Method, and we describe and give examples of the fundamental steps, so that’s possible use in other researches could be properly assessed
