The present work deals with an evaluation of the position of the Czech Republic in terms of it's preparedness to accept the euro currency. The first part describes monetary union in general. The conditions of joining to the euro area are described, as well the criteria of OCA with an application on the euro area and also a short history of european monetary union are defined. The second part is focused on the Czech Republic. Nominal and real convergent criteria are evaluated in terms of the Czech Republic. The work attend also the present situation of global financial crises
