The ‘educated person’ from the perspective of future graduates in primary education teaching

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es reconocer las representaciones que de la ‘persona educada’ poseen los futuros titulados en maestro de primaria. La investigación es de tipo cualitativo con enfoque etnográfi co, la información analizada se obtuvo mediante entrevistas en profundidad a futuros titulados en maestro de educación primaria de universidades públicas y privadas de la ciudad de Madrid. Como hallazgo principal se tiene que la noción de ‘persona educada’ que poseen los estudiantes en su formación inicial docente está asociada al concepto de ‘alumno’ como un sujeto incompleto. La persona entendida como alumno es considerada incompleta en la medida en que se le atribuyen diversas necesidades educativas que han de ser satisfechas por la escuela para que alcance la madurez y la plena incorporación a la sociedad.The aim of this paper is to recognize the representations that the future graduates in primary education teaching have about of the ‘educated person’. Th e research is qualitative with an ethnographic approach, the analyzed information was obtained by doing interviews to future graduates in primary education teaching of public and private universities in the city of Madrid. As a main fi nding is that the notion of ‘educated person’ that students have in their initial teacher training is associated with the concept of ‘student’ as an incomplete individual. Th e person known as a student is considered incomplete in context that they have several educational needs that must be met by the school to reach maturity and full integration into society
