The diameter of the eggs 2 days prior to hatchingwas 596µ and total weight of the eggs was 64 gms. Hatchingtook place in a phased manner, with 90% of the eggshatching out on the first day, and the remaining 10% onthe following day. The total count of hatched out larvaewas approximately 1,76,000; nearly 10% of the eggs wereextruded as infected and discards during the incubationperiod. The external attachment of spermatophore in thefemale was completely used up in the first fertilizationprocess.P. ornatus brooder Impregnated P. ornatus femaleThe female was returned to the broodstock tank afteregg hatching was completed, following which it matedagain (observed during morning hours) with the same malepartner and released fertilized eggs for a second time inthe same inter-molt phase.
