Brackish water fish farming, as an emperical practice, has been known in India for a long time. However, it received the emphasis as a means for augmenting the fish production of the country only since the past decade, and the total effort involved, both in research and development, has, therefore been limited. In several regions of the world, fish farming in brackish waters is expanding rapidly and the production is increasing with the application of scientific methods and innovative technologies. An attempt is made here to present the information available on the production of farmed brackish water organisms in India, efforts made to improve the production during the past decade, constraints encountered and the prospects available
