The survey of teachers' perceptions of behaving in accordance with professional ethical principles alienation from profession in terms of life satisfaction and some other factors

Abstract

Bu araştırma öğretmenlerin meslek etik ilkelerine uygun davranma algılarının işe yabancılaşma - yaşam doyumu ve bazı değişkenler açısından incelenmesi amacını taşımaktadır. Araştırmada ilişkisel tarama modeli yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini 2014/2015 eğitim öğretim yılı içerisinde Sivas il sınırları içinde bulunan resmi anaokulu, ilkokul, ortaokul ve lise de görev yapan öğretmenler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma örneklemini ise evrenden tesadüfî örnekleme yöntemi yardımı ile seçilmiş ve araştırmaya katılma konusunda istekli 397 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma da kişisel bilgi formunun yanı sıra; öğretmenlerin işe yabancılaşma düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla "İşe Yabancılaşma Öğretmen Ölçeği", öğretmenlerin yaşamlarından aldıkları doyum düzeyini belirlemek amacıyla "Yaşam Doyumu Ölçeği" ve öğretmenlerin mesleğin etik davranışlarını sergileme algılarını belirlemek amacıyla "Öğretmen Etik Davranışlar Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Veriler SPSS 15.00 paket programı kullanılarak çözümlenmiştir. Bu çözümlemede frekans ve yüzde tabloları, madde ortalamaları, Kolmogorov-Smirnov Testi, Mann-Whitney U Testi, Kruskal Wallis-H testi, Spearman Korelasyon Analizi yöntemlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular öğretmenlerin kendilerini mesleğin etik ilkelerine uygun davrandıkları yönünde değerlendirdiklerini, orta düzeyde yaşam doyumuna sahip olduklarını, düşük düzeyde işe yabancılaşma yaşadıklarını, cinsiyetlerine göre işe yabancılaşma düzeylerinde herhangi bir farklılaşma olmadığını ve bayan olanlarının erkek olanlarına göre mesleğin etik ilkelerine daha fazla önem verdiklerini göstermektedir. Bunun yanında öğretmenlik meslek etiğine uygun davranma algısı ile işe yabancılaşma arasında negatif yönde; yaşam doyumu ile ise pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu bulunmuştur. Ayrıca öğretmenlerin öğretmenlik meslek etiğine uygun davranma algıları maaş ve emeklerinin karşılığını alıp almadıklarına ilişkin algılarına göre anlamlı düzeyde farklılaşmazken; mesleğin saygınlığı ve mesleklerini değiştirmeye yönelik düşüncelerine göre farklılaştığı bulunmuştur.This study aims to investigate teachers' perceptions of behaving in accordance with professional ethical principles, alienation from profession in terms of life satisfaction and some other factors. A correlational survey design was used in the study. The sample consists of teachers in Sivas province working in state schools such as kindergarten, elementary, secondary and high school. The sampling was randomly selected from those teachers and 397 teachers agreed to participate in the study. The study included a personal information form ." Scale of Teachers' Alienation from Profession" was used to find out the level of alienation from profession for teachers."Life Satisfaction Questionnaire" was used to determine the level of satisfaction with life and "Scale of Ethical Behaviours for Teachers " was used to describe teachers' perceptions of behaving ethically. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 15.00 software. During the analysis frequency and percentage tables, item average scores, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis-H test and Spearman Correlational Analysis were used to evaluate the data. The findings indicated that teachers thought they behaved in accordance with the professional ethical principles, having a moderate level of life satisfaction and experiencing a relatively low alienation from their profession along with no significant differences between male and female teachers in terms of alienation from the profession and female teachers emphasizing the ethical principles more than their male colleagues. There was not a difference between two genders in terms of alieanation from profession. However, there was a negative correlation between alienation from profession and teachers' perceptions of behaving in accordance with professional ethical principles and a positive correlation between life satisfaction and teachers' behaving in accordance with professional ethical principles. While teachers' perceptions of their wages and gaining equally for their efforts seemed not to be dramatically affected by their behaving in accordance with professional ethical principles, teachers' ideas about the prestigiousness of their profession and changing their job were highly variable
